St. Sebastian Catholic Academy

39-76 58th St, Woodside, NY 11377

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with St. Sebastian Catholic Academy! The classes are open to all St. Sebastian students, Pre-K-8, from beginner to advanced levels, and our lesson plans will be adjusted to meet each student's needs. The lesson plans will be adjusted based on the level of the students.

  • For beginner levels: The students will learn the basics of chess and build a solid foundation needed to move ahead - from the movements and values of the pieces, to tactics and different checkmate patterns.

  • For intermediate levels: The students will have a better understanding of the patterns, tactics, and principles in the opening, middle game, and end game.

  • For advanced levels: The students will focus on the strategizing, thinking process, and have a deep understanding of different openings and endgame techniques.

The afterschool program begins with a gathering of all students and instructors in the designated meeting area. Children will have a short snack break. We recommend packing a snack for your child to enjoy. Each session will include a combination of:

  • Interactive Discussions: Exploring chess concepts and strategies.

  • Engaging Puzzles: Sharpening analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Dynamic Games: Applying learned concepts in a fun and competitive setting.

  • Other Chess-Related Activities: Expanding knowledge through various methods.

The program concludes with a period dedicated to creative arts or continued chess play.

Late Pick-up Fee Policy: Parents or guardians are kindly reminded that pick-up time for children is scheduled for 5:30 PM. A grace period until 5:45 PM is provided to accommodate unforeseen circumstances. A late pick-up fee of $25 will be charged for the first 15 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. For every additional minute after the initial 15 minutes, an additional $1 per minute will be charged. This fee is payable directly to the instructor on the day of the late pick-up. This fee is implemented to ensure the efficient operation of the program and to respect the time of our staff. It is imperative that children are picked-up punctually to maintain the safety and well-being of all children under our care. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to this policy.

Afterschool Program Behavior Policy: The New York Chess Academy afterschool program is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and enriching environment for all participants. To maintain this standard, we have established a three-strike policy to address instances of misbehavior. This policy is aligned with New York City guidelines for youth programs.

By enrolling in the program, you agree to adhere to the policy. Please review the complete program behavior policy
