We are thrilled to announce a newly optimized structure for our Saturday chess program at our Forest Hills location offering flexible training pathways. Students may enroll exclusively in their morning academy level class, join the afternoon Chess Team, or combine both for comprehensive instruction and competitive training.

 

To ensure our students have the time they need to deeply engage with their lessons and matches, we have expanded our session lengths. Moving beyond our previous one-hour format gives our advancing players the crucial time required to analyze and complete complex games. By scheduling multiple skill levels simultaneously, we are also maximizing student progress and ensuring seamless, immediate transitions as your child graduates to the next rank.

OUR NEW SATURDAY SCHEDULE:

• 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM - Pawn 1 & Pawn 2 Levels​

  • Designed for beginners and rising players, this session focuses on piece movement, essential tactics, and board vision through interactive lessons, guided drills, and practice play.

  • Requirements: Open to beginners and rising players

  • What They Learn: Core piece movements, board geometry, fundamental opening principles, standard checkmating patterns, and basic tactical vision.

  • How Class Works: A dynamic blend of interactive group lessons, hands-on puzzle-solving challenges, skill-building drills, and guided practice games tailored to each week’s topic.

  • Who It’s For: Ideal for young or newer players starting their chess journey. This session builds critical thinking, patience, spatial awareness, and confidence in a supportive environment with zero tournament pressure.

• 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM - Knight, Bishop, and Rook Levels​

  • Perfect for players who have mastered the basics, this class rotates through dynamic puzzle challenges, tactical strategy sessions, and clock-management drills.

  • Requirements: Proficiency in core movement and checkmate patterns

  • What They Learn: Multi-step tactical combinations (forks, pins, skewers), mid-game planning, basic endgame technique, and clock management. Focused on mid-game planning, advanced tactics, and playing out full, timed matches.

  • How Class Works: Rotates through interactive masterclass instruction, group game analysis, tactical puzzle speed-runs, positional drills, and timed academy match play.

  • Who It’s For: Designed for advancing players who have mastered the basics and want to refine their decision-making. Perfect for students looking to climb academy levels or transition into competitive play at their own pace.

• 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM - Chess Team (Open to all levels. USCF rating required)

  • Designed for our most competitive players, this intensive two-hour block features advanced coursework, rigorous competitive play, and dedicated tournament preparation

  • Requirements: Active USCF Rating & mandatory tournament participation

  • What They Learn: Advanced positional concepts, master-level game analysis, custom opening repertoires, tournament psychology, and strict notation sheet review.

  • How Class Works: Intensive training featuring deep-dive theoretical lectures, student tournament game reviews, high-pressure competitive sparring, and targeted endgame drills.

  • Who It’s For: Tailored exclusively for players actively competing in official USCF tournaments. Unlike morning academy classes, the Chess Team requires high discipline, mandatory weekly homework assignments, and active attendance at local rated events.
