We are thrilled to announce our partnership with IS 227Q - Louis Armstrong Middle School! The classes are open to all IS 227Q students, Grades 5-8, from beginner to advanced levels, and our lesson plans will be adjusted to meet each student's needs.

  • For beginner levels: The students will learn the basics of chess and build a solid foundation needed to move ahead - from the movements and values of the pieces, to tactics and different checkmate patterns.

  • For intermediate levels: The students will have a better understanding of the patterns, tactics, and principles in the opening, middle game, and end game.

  • For advanced levels: The students will focus on the strategizing, thinking process, and have a deep understanding of different openings and endgame techniques.

The afterschool program begins with a gathering of all students and instructors in the designated meeting area. Students will have a short break and can bring a snack if they'd like. Each session will include a combination of:

  • Interactive Discussions: Exploring chess concepts and strategies.

  • Engaging Puzzles: Sharpening analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Dynamic Games: Applying learned concepts in a fun and competitive setting.

  • Other Chess-Related Activities: Expanding knowledge through various methods.

The program concludes with a period dedicated to creative arts or continued chess play.

Late Pick-up Fee Policy: Parents or guardians are kindly reminded that pick-up time for children is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
