Online Afterschool Classes

An interactive online lesson for absolute beginners to advanced level. Similar to traditional classroom settings, participants will also have time to play a supervised game. We are using LiChess platform for playing. All participants are required to create a free account on LiChess and join the New York Chess Academy team for the coaches to be able to monitor the game.

  • PAWNS (Beginner 1)

    This section is for absolute beginners to beginners. The students will learn the basics - how to move the pieces, special moves, chess language, and rules of the game.

    • Recommended for absolute beginners and unrated players

  • KNIGHTS (Beginner 2)

    This section is for students who already know how to move the pieces and the basic rules. Topics to be tackled include checkmates, tactics, and techniques.

    • Recommended for unrated to 500 USCF rating

  • BISHOPS (Intermediate 1)

    This section is an intermediate-level group. The students will discuss various checkmating patterns, theories, and principles.

    • Recommended for players with USCF rating of 500-999. Unrated players are welcome to join

    Recommended for players rated 800-1300. The class will dig deeper into strategies, openings, middle games, and endgames.

  • QUEENS (Advanced 1)

    Recommended for players rated 1300-1800. Focuses on middle-game understanding, strategy, positional play, and endgame techniques.

    General Details

    • Thursdays (October 1-December 17, 2020)

    • Eastern Time: 5:30-7:30 PM

    • Open to all ages with the USCF Rating of 1300-1800

    • This section is a much more serious and competitive training ideal for tournament players

    • Activities include discussion, problem-solving, supervised gameplay, game analysis, and homework.

    $25/session (Semester)

  • CHESS-SCHOOLERS

    Open to kids from ages 3 to 5 years. The students will learn the basics - how to move the pieces, special moves, chess language, and rules of the game.

    General Details

    • Limited to 8 participants

    • 30-minute class

    • Recommended for absolute beginners
